Community Resources

This is a list of community organizations and groups serving the diverse ACB (African, Caribbean, Black) community in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. 

  • 613-819 Black Hub
    • The 613-819 Black Hub regularly brings people of African descent in Ottawa-Gatineau together to coordinate volunteer-led efforts to address anti-Black racism through systemic change primarily in education, justice, employment, business and politics. 
  • African Canadian Association of Ottawa
    • The African Canadian Association of Ottawa is the umbrella organization for all African descent organizations in the Ottawa-Gatineau area.
  • Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program
    • The Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program (ACMP) is an initiative dedicated to supporting the success of African, Caribbean, Black (ACB) and other racialized undergraduate and graduate students on campus, while encouraging them to be confident members in our Ottawa community.

    • Established in 1985, Black History Ottawa seeks to increase the public’s awareness, knowledge and appreciation of the culture, history, traditions and achievements of Canadians of African descent in the National Capital Region and across Canada
  • Black Ottawa Business Network
    • Our goal is to support & create opportunities for professional & social advancement. This group gives the local business industry of Ottawa a place to network and build relationships with each other and grow along with the nation’s capital.
  • Black on Black 89.1 CHUO FM
  • Black Ottawa Connect
    • BOC aims to provide a safe space for the Black Communities in Ottawa and Gatineau to be able to come together, share resources, educate and empower one another for full participation in all aspects of Canadian society. Black Ottawa Connect is a non-profit organization on a mission to give Black people a space to gather, to heal & to thrive.
  • Black Ottawa Scene
    • Black Ottawa Scene is a web-based monthly volunteer-run photo-news magazine published out of Canada’s national capital city and showcasing events organized by persons of African descent, or in which they play a pivotal or leadership role.
  • Build Out Loud
    • We help entrepreneurs, business owners, creatives, intrapreneurs, as well as those who have not yet started their *thing* but want to in the near future. We facilitate connections and provide tools for our community to level-up their project, business, or start up idea.  

  • Canadian Association of Rwandan Youth
    • The Canadian Association of Rwandan Youth is a nonprofit and non-political organization created to empower Youth. CARY- Ottawa is a budding organization whose membership includes people of Rwandan and non-Rwandan heritage. 
  • Communauté Congolaise du Canada Ottawa Gatineau

  • Culture Check
    • Culture Check is an award-winning learning and development social enterprise, addressing racial inequity in the workplace through a combination of training, coaching, peer networking, research, best practices and tools.
  • Equal Chance
    •  To equip vulnerable (low-income and homeless) black Canadians with concrete tools to fight the barriers formed against them and contribute to building a society in which our communities, our women, our men, our youth and gender diverse people will have equal opportunities, chances and access to important/vital resources by working closely with various departments, companies, organizations and Allies.
  • Ethiopian Community Association in Ottawa
    • The Ethiopian Community Association of Ottawa is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the diverse ethnic and cultural community of Ethiopians in Ottawa. Our mission is to bring services to Ethiopian newcomers and the diaspora in the native languages that they are familiar with including Amharic, Afar, Tigrinya, Oromifa, and more as we grow our membership and network.
  • FAMHAS (Fabiola’s Addiction and Mental Health Awareness and Support) Foundation
    • Our outreach programs and educational sessions provide information and resources to help eliminate stereotypes and stigma about mental health and addiction in the black community. Through these sessions, we are able to open the doors to have conversations about mental health, redefine what it is, and share knowledge to clarify misconceptions.
  • Flo’s Seniors
    • Flo’s Seniors is a Not-For-Profit Corporation. We are dedicated to promoting the independence and well-being of older adults in the Ottawa region. We also look forward to intergenerational collaborations within the community.
  • Guyana Ottawa Cultural Association
    • The Guyana Ottawa Cultural Association (GOCA) is a voluntary non-profit organization which fosters and promotes the country’s rich cultural heritage among Guyanese born and children of Guyanese parentage residing in the National Capital Region (NCR).
  • Jaku Konbit
    • Our mission is to support and improve the lives of disadvantaged individuals and families of African and Caribbean descent through partnership with all communities and programming that results in everyone’s successful economic and civic participation in Canadian society.
  • Justice for Abdirahman
    • Justice for Abdirahman is an Ottawa based group supported by local and national advocacy groups. The objective of the coalition’s campaign is to obtain greater transparency, challenge racial inequity, and bring positive change in order to secure justice for the late Abdirahman Abdi and his family.
  • Network of Black Business Professional Women
    • The Network of Black Business & Professional is a progressive women’s organization that supports women in achieving success in their business, professional, financial and personal life. We provide opportunities for networking, connecting, mentoring and learning from and with each other.
